Dirt Cake

Dirt Cake is one of my family’s favorite desserts of all time. My mom gave me this recipe that she has had for many years. It has been served up at every birthday and special occasion over the years. It is a rich but delicious dessert that is very easy to make. Therefore if you are making a last-minute dessert this is a good one to do. It is quick and easy and everyone will love it. The recipe will be posted at bottom of this page.

My Mom and Dirt Cake

Dirt Cake

Not sure how old I was when my mom made her first dirt cake however they make a great fit. My mom has always had a love for flowers. And still to this day loves digging around in the dirt to plant flowers. She is either busy in the kitchen cooking or baking or outside planting something in the dirt. As with any mother also grandmother and great-grandmother she sometimes overdoes the baking. Pies, cakes, and cookies are a familiar aroma in her kitchen. We have had to ask her to cut back at times (gaining weight is a bitch), however, never when it comes to making the family’s favorite Dirt Cake.

The Wine and Dine Show

Every Wednesday we have our Wine and Dine Show live on zoom. Anyone can join us and share the fun of food and wine. This is brought to you by our DTC Wine of The Month Club. A few members each week make an entree, appetizer, and dessert and pair one of our delicious wines with each dish. So, this is not only a fun thing but educational also. I will be featuring my mom’s Dirt Cake on December 28th 2022. The wine I am going to pair with this delious dish will be our very own Ricord Merlot. Come join us for a great evening of education and fun. Every Wednesday 8:30 eastern time. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/267159642

Dirt Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 lb. soften butter
  • 1/8 oz. package cream cheese
  • 1 cup powder sugar
  • 2 small boxes of french vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 12oz. container of cool whip
  • 1 large package of Oreo cookies (chill)
  • 3 cups of whole milk

Cream together butter, cream cheese, and sugar. Now blend milk with two boxes of pudding and cool whip and add to first mixture. Crush Oreo cookies in a blender. (I put them in a plastic freezer bag and crush them with a rubber mallet.) Sprinkle oreo cookies in the bottom of the bowl just enough to cover the bottom pour about two-inch layer of the mixture on top of the crushed cookies sprinkle more cookies on top of the mixture and continue the process until the mixture is gone and topped off with heavy layer of crushed cookies. If you want you can decorate with a flower or two or some gummie worms. I recommend that you serve it in a small dish for this will surely raise your blood sugar level.

I hope that when you make this delicious dessert that you and your family will love it as much mine has over the years. Also, Thanks, Mom!
